Why Horse Races In Sydney Should Be Part Of Your Travel Plans

Sydney is the largest populated city in Australia and is home to some of the most well-known landmarks in the world. Anywhere you go in the world you could show someone a picture of the Sydney Opera House and at the very least get a “That’s in Australia” response. Although Melbourne seems to be a much more popular city, it is Sydney that gets a lot more tourists due to its location. 

It has a whole lot of beaches that have millions of visitors every year and have become synonymous with the typical Australian lifestyle. Australia is far away for many people who wish to travel but it is worth visiting at least once in your lifetime. Sometimes people come to Australia for what is meant to be a short trip but end up either staying there much longer or even settling there.

Take a look at what you can do in Sydney if you decide to travel there and see why attending the horse races should be part of your itinerary.

Go and see the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House

One of the most recognizable structures in the world, the Sydney Harbour Bridge is an iconic landmark. Not only was it constructed for aesthetic and apt purposes, but it was also designed to stand out and become the iconic landmark that it is now. Anyone who goes to Sydney will only see this magnificent bridge and will want to cross it. There is also the option to climb the bridge and get a distinct and unique view of the city, which the experience of which will stay with you for a lifetime.

The Sydney Opera house is equally iconic as its structure is pretty unique in terms of architecture. Better get a good photo in front of it that you can show your jealous friends back home.

Attend the horse races

Apart from Melbourne, Sydney has some of the best horse racing events in the world. There are several racecourses in Sydney including the Royal Randwick Racecourse which is home to some of the most lucrative turf races in the world. The sprinter race The Everest boasts a total prize purse of $15,000,000AUD with a $600,000AUD entry fee. The course is also home to over 20 Group 1 races including the Winx Stakes, the Sydney Cup, and the Australian Derby. Rosehill Racecourse, located in Sydney’s western suburb of Rosehill, is home to many famous and popular races. The Golden Slipper which has been run since 1957 is a 1200-meter sprinter race for two-year-olds and has a prize purse of $5,000,000AUD.  The Golden Gift Horse Race is also a highly anticipated event that takes place in early November. It is a relatively new race but still has a total prize purse of $1,000,000AUD at the time of writing. The race seems to be one of the ones to keep an eye on in the years to come. 

All in all, the horse racing scene in Sydney is very popular and enjoyed and should definitely be on the list of things to do if you are considering visiting Sydney. Horse racing occurs all year round, but the main highlights are the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival which occurs from mid-March to mid-April as well as the Sydney Everest Carnival which takes place from mid-September to early November.

Spend a day at the beach

The Sydney area has some of the most beautiful and iconic beaches in the world and it would be a shame to visit and not go the beach. Bondi Beach is world-famous for its beautiful clear waters and great surfing locations. Manly Beach is also a popular beach for tourists and locals alike and you will also find keen surfers there.
